    Question
How to move items from Reserves sublibrary back into the main library? The change could be done via SQL, but are there alternatives?

    Answer
The problem with SQL updating item records is discussed in Article 000042656 ("SQL update of item sublibrary, collection, and call number fields don't update indexes"). (See Smartlink below.)

As described in section 6.1.3 of the "Staff User’s Guide – Course Reading and Reserves", this is typically done using the “Change Item Information” option under "Items" on the Circulation client menu bar (the second line from the top of the Circ client screen).

When the items were placed on Reserves the z30_sub_library, z30_collection, and/or z30_item_process_status were changed, and (if the first two) the z30_temp_location flag was set.

Assuming so, the “Restore Item Information” option can be used to take the item off Reserves. When "Change Item Information" is performed, the original values are stored in the Z30 field of the ADM record. And when "Restore Item Information" is performed, those values are retrieved from the Z30 field of the ADM record and the z30_temp_location flag is unchecked.

The "Restore Item Information" function requires only the item barcode. The barcode of each item being taken off of Reserves is scanned into the Item Barcode box.

If staff feel that having to scan the barcode is too much trouble, a batch change of z30_temp_location flag to "N" could be performed by the manage-62 Item Update Service. The advantage of this method over SQL is that it triggers proper reindexing of the location (in the bib indexes).
