360 Search: Including Pay-Per-Search Resources
- Product: 360 Search
Should I include pay-per-search resources in 360 Search?
Because 360 Search, as a federated-search service, encourages users to search many resources simultaneously and to refine and execute related searches, we generally do not recommend that our clients include databases with per-search licensing charges in the service.
In those cases where pay-per-search databases are included in 360 Search you are likely to see your usage spike and, as a result, you may find that the provider is dramatically increasing your charges for them. OCLC is one such provider that often charges for use of their databases on a per-search basis.
We recommend that 360 Search clients carefully examine their licensing terms for such resources before including them in the service.
